The Problem of Climate Change

In this block, we will learn about the climate change crisis and its causes.

Climate change is the shift in temperature over time. These shifts are one of the most significant threats to our Earth. They affect every aspect of our world; the environment, wildlife, humans, etc.

The truth is, humans are the largest contributor to global warming. We produce almost 40 billion tonnes of carbon dioxide each year. These gases trap heat in our atmosphere, causing rapid increases in our global temperature, called the greenhouse effect. Humans emit greenhouse gasses mainly through burning fossil fuels. These fossil fuels are used for heat, transportation, and electricity. You may be contributing the climate change without being aware of it. A single motor vehicle powered by gasoline emits around 4.5 metric tons of greenhouse gases each year.

Oil and gas has become a trillion-dollar industry globally. Why? Because people are still allocating their money into the industry. With greater demand, comes more money. It is the fault of humans that cities are flooded, animals are coming close to extinction, and families struggle to access resources.

Climate change is a global emergency, and we need to act before the damage is irreversible. There are many ways we can tackle the crisis, but we need to work together. In the next article, we will learn about possible solutions.
